Thematic Area: Migration and Development
Sri Lanka adopted the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) at the Inter-governmental Conference in Marrakesh in 2018, aiming to strengthen migration governance through enhanced policy coherence across all sectors and levels of government.
The GCM emphasises protecting the rights and dignity of migrants, addressing their needs, integrating them into development planning, combating discrimination, and improving governance frameworks.
This project aims to reinvigorate the GCM Implementation Committee and update the National GCM Implementation Plan by providing technical guidance, supporting the institutional mechanisms, and leading the validation process with key stakeholders.
The objectives of the consultancy are:
- Provide technical guidance and support to update the National GCM Implementation Plan – 2022, ensuring alignment with GCM’s vision and guiding principles.
- Support the reinvigoration of the National GCM Implementation Committee and the UN Network on Migration in Sri Lanka.
- Lead the drafting and validation process of the updated National GCM Implementation Plan, by working closely with the National GCM Implementation Committee, the UN Network on Migration, and other relevant stakeholders.
