Since the 1980s, the non-state sector has progressively become more involved in higher education. Currently, the non-state higher education institutions include institutions registered under various entities, as well as those not registered. The qualifications issued by these institutions are not continually accredited. Additionally, there is a lack of clear information about the courses offered, the institutions’ legal status, their quality assurance processes, and the students enrolled, making planning for higher education a problematic task.
This project aims to support the Standing Committee on Accreditation and Quality Assurance (SCAQA) by conducting a comprehensive analysis of the current higher education landscape in Sri Lanka, covering both state and non-state sectors, to provide a comprehensive overview of higher education institutions in Sri Lanka.
