China has emerged as one of the world’s largest import markets for agricultural products, providing significant opportunities for Sri Lankan exporters. Although Sri Lanka has a strong international reputation for products such as Ceylon Tea, coconut-based products, and spices, the country’s exports to the Chinese market remain relatively moderate compared with its overall exports to the world.
Therefore, it is essential to understand the competitiveness of these sectors, identify supply-side constraints, evaluate export readiness, and assess enterprises’ capacity to meet Chinese market requirements to strengthen Sri Lanka’s position in the Chinese market.
This study will thereby provide an evidence-based assessment of Sri Lanka’s export potential by examining production capabilities, value chains, export performance, institutional support, and challenges faced by exporters. The findings will support policy recommendations and contribute to a broader review of China–Sri Lanka trade.
