Why People Choose to Participate in Nonstandard Work in Sri Lanka

Similar to other global economies Sri Lanka also has experienced an increase in the incidence of precarious work in recent years. For example, 56% of employees are temporary or casual workers. This raises serious concern on decent working condition in Sri Lanka. This study explores how non-standard forms of work arrangements evade the fundamental worker rights and shed the light on why individuals participate in the precarious work.
