Visiting Scholar Prof. Yoshiyasu Ono, conducts presentation on “Long-run Stagnation in Japan – Theory and Policy”
Visiting Scholar Prof. Yoshiyasu Ono, Professor at the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER), Osaka University, Japan, conducted a presentation on “Long-run Stagnation in Japan – Theory and Policy” at the IPS premises. Prof. Ono argued that a monetary stimulus has failed to raise Japan’s GDP growth, and that the better option is to raise taxes and create employment opportunities through higher government spending.
IPS organized the event with the aim of encouraging collaborative research with international scholars working on socio-economic policy issues relevant to Sri Lanka and the wider Asian region. IPS Chairman Prof. W.D. Lakshman, Executive Director Dr. Saman Kelegama, IPS research staff and other stakeholders were present at the event.
