UNNExT Workshop on Paperless Trade Facilitation for SMEs
IPS Research Officer, Suwendrani Jayaratne, participated at the recently held ‘UNNExT Workshop on Paperless Trade Facilitation for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises’ in Bangkok, Thailand. Organized by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia (ESCAP) together with the International Trade Centre (ITC) and the World Bank, the two-day workshop aimed at building the capacity of countries in the region to better understand, identify and address trade facilitation and paperless trade measures that have a proportionally larger impact for SMEs. The focus was on ensuring that national governments in targeted countries have the tools and understanding of how to best integrate SMEs specific measures into their trade facilitation reform plans and paperless trade system designs.
The workshop brought together 25-30 officers and experts from relevant Ministries and research institutions working in the area of trade facilitation and/or SME development, including participants from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam.
