The Problems and Prospects of Sri Lanka’s Handloom Industry

The study analyses the capacity of Sri Lanka’s handlooms sector to meet the Government’s objectives of employment generation and export growth. It examines the problems and prospects of the industry mainly from a demand perspective, but draws on previous assessments of supply-side constraints such as the supplies of labour, yarn, design capability and technology to assess the capacity of the sector to respond to market demand.
