The Development of a National Framework to Measure the Progress and Contribution of Migration towards Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Sri Lanka is obliged to monitor progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to migration. However, there are challenges in monitoring and reporting progress in terms of migration related SDGs due to many capacity and data issues. In this context, this study aims to sensitise government officials on the inclusion of migration in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the relevance of migration within the SDG context, and to develop reliable and comprehensive migration related data. With regards to data, in addition to mapping existing migration data in Sri Lanka to global SDG Targets and Indicators, this study also aims to propose new national targets and proxy indicators where there are data gaps. Based on these mapped targets and indicators, a comprehensive framework will be developed to measure the progress and contribution of migration towards achieving the SDGs in Sri Lanka.
