Seminar: ‘What will South Asia look like in 2025?’

A Seminar on ‘What will South Asia look like in 2025?’ was organized by IPS and The World Bank and took place at the IPS Auditorium on the 24th of May, 2012. The seminar was based on the book: ‘Reshaping Tomorrow: Is South Asia Ready for the Big Leap,’ edited by Ejaz Ghani, Economic Advisor to South Asia PREM, World Bank.

The Welcome address was given by Saman Kelegama, Executive Director of the IPS while Susan Razazz, Senior Country Director (Sri Lanka) of the World Bank made the Introductory Remarks. The editor of the Book, Ejaz Ghani gave a comprehensive overview of both the optimistic  and pessimistic scenarios  for South Asia based on the chapters in the book.

Discussants to the seminar were Anushka Wijesinha, Research Economist, IPS, Anura Ekanayake, Past President of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, and Sarath Rajapatirana, Senior Visiting Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. The Closing Remarks were given by David Michael Gould, Lead Economist, South Asia Region of the World Bank. A review of the book by Chandana Karunaratne of the IPS will be published in the forthcoming issue of the South Asia Economic Journal (Vol. 13, No. 2).
