Seminar on ’Exploring the Potential for Sri Lanka-Vietnam Economic Cooperation

IPS together with the Embassy of Vietnam organized a seminar on ’Exploring the Potential for Sri Lanka-Vietnam Economic Cooperation’ on 30th March 2012, at the IPS Auditorium.

The seminar focused on the following areas of Sri Lanka-Vietnam Economic relations: Trading, Investment & Tourism opportunities and prospects. Hon. Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Senior Minister for International Monetary Cooperation was the Chief Guest, and Ton Sinh Thanh, Vietnam Ambassador to Sri Lanka, was the Guest of Honour.

Dr. Saman Kelegama, Executive Director, IPS, delivered the Welcome Address and Introduction to the Seminar.

The growing opportunities for Sri Lanka and business opportunities in Vietnam were highlighted. The potential to attract tourists from Vietnam to Sri Lanka and vice versa were also deliberated. Vietnamese experts on the subject participated at the Seminar.

Anushka Wijesinha, Research Economist, IPS made a presentation on ‘Sri Lanka Economic Progress’ and Chandana Karunaratne, Research Assistant, IPS made a presentation on ‘Sri Lanka-Vietnam Trade Progress and Prospects: Sri Lankan Perspective’ and ‘Sri Lanka ? Vietnam Investments: Sri Lankan Perspective’.
