Roundtable on Revitalising SAARC

IPS Research Officer Kithmina Hewage participated as a panelist at the Roundtable on Revitalising SAARC, organized by the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI), on 16 April 2017, in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

During the discussion Mr. Hewage argued that stakeholders should be realistic about the politics of the region and start looking at bilateral and sub-regional arrangements (e.g. BIMSTEC, BBIN) as complimentary – rather than competitive – to regional cooperation. He also pointed out that countries in the region should be cognizant of India’s focus on global economic interests and adapt accordingly to benefit from its rapid growth.
