Researchers from the Global South Require Improved Funding – Dr Nisha Arunatilake
11 February 2022
There is increasing evidence that the participation of researchers from the Global South in international development debates, international conferences and international development reports is limited. The Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) initiated a Call-to-Action ‘Actions to increase Southern-led development’ to reverse this trend. Speaking at the event, IPS’ Director of Research Nisha Arunatilake highlighted the need to improve funding for researchers from the Global South (broadly, Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean) to improve the research capacity and research culture in the Global South. She emphasised that greater involvement of researchers from the Global South will facilitate the formulation of more grounded development agendas and improve the research to policy nexus.
