Remembering Dr Saman Kelegama, a Visionary, Whose Legacy was Built on Humanity and Humility

Dr Saman Kelegama’s contributions to the IPS and its achievements are immeasurable. Starting as a Research Fellow in 1990 and eventually taking the role of Executive Director in 1995, he created a culture that fostered independent thinking and intellectual growth, propelling IPS to the forefront of economic policy research in Sri Lanka. It is a testament to his character and resolve that he preserved the independence and integrity of IPS as a non-partisan research organisation. His enduring legacy goes beyond IPS with an illustrious record in public service, ranging from various government commissions to advisory boards. His traits of modesty, humility and humanity were deeply cherished by all those who had the privilege of working with him.
