Deng Lan, Associate Professor at the Institute of South Asia Studies, Yunnan Academy of Social Sciences met with IPS Executive Director, Dr. Saman Kelegama and the IPS Research Staff and shared her  thoughts on promoting economic and trade cooperation between Sri Lanka and Yunnan Province of China, which is keen to foster closer relations with South Asia. She also spoke of China’s ‘One Belt, One Road’ Initiative, which was launched in 2013. This strategy includes ‘New Silk Road Economic Belt’ and ‘21^stCentury Maritime Silk Road’, which aim to link China with Europe through Central and Western Asia, and China with Southeast Asian countries, Africa and Europe, respectively.
