“More equitable North-South Collaboration are needed for inclusive Global Development Research” emphasised in a PEP Webinar

The Webinar, organized by the Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP), discussed and identified concrete actions to enhance Southern, and particularly female Southern, participation in global development research and policy debates. The objective of this webinar, titled, “Enhancing North-South Collaboration in Global Development Research and Policy”, was to foster a more equitable and inclusive environment that values and integrates diverse perspectives. Key aspects explored in the webinar included various strategies and initiatives to improve the visibility and impact of researchers in the South, specifically female, and the access for their publications in high-impact renowned journals in Global North. The webinar also highlighted the importance in enhanced long-term Global North-South collaborations which prioritises capacity-building, co-designing projects with Southern partners and ensuring fair representation of the South in decision-making roles. The webinar emphasised the need for inclusive, bottom-up collaborations that value and integrate Southern perspectives, ensuring a more balanced and equitable approach to global development.

This insightful webinar was moderated by Dr Nisha Arunatilake, IPS Director of Research. The webinar panel included, Professor Andy McKay of University of Sussex, Professor Chris Barrett of Cornell university, New York, Professor Ramos Mabugu of Sol Plaatje University, South Africa and Professor Veronica Amarante of Universidad de la República (Udelar) in Uruguay.
