Ministry of Environment and IPS Host Virtual Stakeholder Consultation

21 October 2020

Evaluation of overall policy coherence and recommendations for designing and implementing an optimal policy package (OPP) for Measuring, Reporting and Verification (MRV), Sri Lanka Carbon Registry (SLCR) and Sri Lanka Carbon Crediting Scheme (SLCCS).

The Ministry of Environment and IPS organised a virtual stakeholder consultation workshop – the second in a series of five workshops – to evaluate existing policies on climate change mitigation, identify means of strengthening them, and recommend new regulations and/or policies to design an OPP.

Experts at the virtual meeting deliberated on existing policies and regulations in the energy, transport, waste, industry and agriculture-forestry-other land use (AFOLU) sectors, and focused on identifying policy gaps, overlaps and contradictions in existing policies and regulations in each sector.

The policy evaluation workshop is a component of the World Bank-funded ‘Climate Mitigation Action Support Project (CMASP)’ which aims to strengthen Sri Lanka’s policy framework to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
