
Migration and Gender in Sri Lanka: Trends and Opportunities for GCM

IPS Research Fellow, Bilesha Weeraratne, made a presentation on ‘Migration and Gender in Sri Lanka: Trends and Opportunities for Global Compact for Migration (GCM)’, at the National Consultation for Implementation of a Gender-Responsive Global Compact for Safe Orderly and Regular Migration, organised by UN Women, held at the UN Compound in Colombo, on 27 March 2019. The National Consultation was attended by government and non-government stakeholders involved in migration.
Dr. Weeraratne’s presentation elaborated on the current trends in labour migration from Sri Lanka with an emphasis on recruitment of female domestic workers and the Family Background Report (FBR) to highlight their gender dimensions and implications and possible opportunities for Sri Lanka to benefit from GCM.
