IPS Research Fellow and Head of Agricultural Economic Policy Research, Manoj Thibbotuwawa, highlighted the importance of focusing on market system approach in making agricultural policies to achieve win-win solutions for all the stakeholders in the value chain.

He further pointed out that Value Chain Analysis (VCA) could be used as a valuable tool to investigate the role that value chains can play in achieving specific policy objectives, such as poverty alleviation, sustained growth, and food security, as IPS has done in recent times.

Dr. Thibbotuwawa was speaking as a panelist at the National Experience Sharing Forum on Shaping Local Economy through Lessons Learnt, held on 28 November 2018, at the Centre for Banking Studies, Rajagiriya.

The forum, organised by the Industrial Services Bureau (ISB), aimed to create an opportunity for various development agencies and individual experts to share their experience in four important themes of local economic development – Regional Industrialisation; Market System Approach; Role of Producer Organizations/Social Enterprises; and Sustainable Consumption and Production.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Indrajit Coomaraswamy, delivered the key note speech as the guest of honour while the Governor of the North Western Province, K C Logeswaran, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
