Management Conference of MBA Alumni Association, University of Colombo and Daily FT on “Growing with Giants”
14 June 2017
Cinnamon Grand, Colombo
IPS Research Fellow, Janaka Wijayasiri, spoke on “China-Sri Lanka Trade: Opportunities and Challenges” at the Management Conference of MBA Alumni Association, University of Colombo and Daily FT on “Growing with Giants”, on 14 June 2017, in Colombo. He highlighted that trade between Sri Lanka and China is steadily increasing, with imports growing at a much faster rate than exports. Whilst there is tremendous potential to expand exports into China, there are likely to be challenges in entering the market due to non-tariff measures, which need to be sorted out in the on-going China-Sri Lanka FTA negotiations. He also observed that there are challenges in negotiating an agreement with China, given that it is aiming for a high standard agreement.
Chairman of IPS, Dr. Razeen Sally, took part in the ensuring panel discussion on Sri Lanka-China Economic Cooperation, Trade and Bilateral Agreements. Participants at this event include CEOs, Senior Managers, and Middle Level Managers from both private and public sector organizations.
