
Kanchana Wickramasinghe Highlights the Importance of Agri Insurance to Protect Farmers

IPS Research Economist, Kanchana Wickramasinghe, pointed out that “natural disaster incidence has increased as of late and dry zone, paddy farmers are particularly vulnerable.” She also highlighted that the farmers are caught up in a vicious cycle of debt, as their major risk management strategy is to borrow from informal sources.
Her comments at a recent workshop organized by the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS) were reported in The Island on 07 June 2018.
