Since 2006, IPS has engaged in several value chain research projects in different sectors (both goods and services) with diverse research focuses. More recently, IPS undertook a value chain analysis of the spice sector covering cinnamon, pepper and cardamom.

IPS Research Fellow, Janaka Wijayasiri, made this remark at the workshop on ‘Harmonising Methodologies for Agriculture Value Chain Assessments in Sri Lanka’, on 07 December 2018, at the Mövenpick Hotel, Colombo.

Dr. Wijayasiri highlighted the value chain methodology used at IPS, constraints observed with the methodology, and suggested some recommendations for improved VC analysis.

The event was organised by the Department of National Planning under the project Technical Assistance to the Modernisation of Agriculture Programme in Sri Lanka, funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by a consortium led by ECORYS.

IPS Research Fellow, Manoj Thibbotuwawa, also participated in the discussion.
