IPS Researcher Highlights the Importance of ICIMS in Fighting Climate Change
04 December 2019
Islamabad, Pakistan
IPS Research Assistant, Ruwan Samaraweera, highlighted the importance of Integrated Climate Information Management Systems (ICIMS) in tackling climate change at the 22nd Sustainable Development Conference (SDC), organised by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), on 04 December 2019 in Islamabad, Pakistan.
He noted that farmers in developing countries are severely affected by the impacts of climate change due to their heavy reliance on weather and climatic conditions. Farmers in dry and arid regions are among the most vulnerable to impacts of climate change and adaptation is the key to face rising climatic uncertainty.
Mr. Samaraweera added that climate adaptation by farmers could be either policy-induced or autonomous. Either way, climate adaptation is critical and requires adequate information and knowledge as the prevailing traditional forecasts and farmers knowledge on local climate declines.
