
International Symposium on ‘Agriculture and Environment 2012’, Faculty of Agriculture
Dilani Hirimuthugodage, Research Officer, IPS, made a presentation on “The TRIPs Agreement in Protecting New Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Traditional Knowledge in Sri Lanka” at the International Symposium on ‘Agriculture and Environment’ which was held at, and organized by the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Ruhuna.
In her presentation, she highlighted the importance of having a proper and well-built protection system for new plant varieties, as well as similar protections for farmers. She also emphasized the importance of implementing rules and regulations in accordance with the World Trade Organizations’ (WTO’s) Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights Agreement (TRIPs).
