International Seminar on “Selected Outstanding Issues in Services, Trade and Development”
Anushka Wijesinha, Research Officer, IPS, participated in a International Seminar “Selected Outstanding Issues in Services, Trade and Development” organized jointly by ARTNet of UNESCAP, and the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), in Manila, Philippines, from the 3rd to 5th May 2011.
The purpose of the event was to promote a policy dialogue between trade officials and researchers in the region on the current state of readiness of countries to conduct analytical research in these new areas, as well as the implications of such research to the broader development objectives of the countries in the region. Trade experts from WTO and other organizations also provided their insights on trade and related issues.
Participants were drawn from government ministries and trade-related agencies, research and academic institutions from the Asia-Pacific region, and international organizations. Two other participants attended from Sri Lanka –the Deputy Director, National Planning Department, Ministry of Finance and Planning, and the Additional Secretary, Ministry of Co-operatives and Internal Trade.
