This project will develop a background report on the agro-food sector, focusing on its potential for job creation and capital mobilisation. It will outline the sector’s current economic contribution, job creation, and linkages across upstream and downstream industries.
The study will identify high-value sub-sectors with strong potential to attract private investment. Using Sri Lanka’s input–output tables, it will also assess the contribution of agricultural exports to the economy.
Additionally, the report will map the trade policy environment and institutional framework governing the agro-food sector, highlighting key bottlenecks that constrain value-chain development.
