Global Value Chains and Standards for Trade in Asia
29 March 2018
Dr. Saman Kelegama Auditorium, IPS
IPS Research Fellow, Janaka Wijayasiri, remarked that the tea industry in Sri Lanka, which is predominately export oriented, is increasingly governed by strict and complex standards. While tea exporters have managed to comply with standards and regulations, he stated that exporters still have to overcome a number of challenges in order to stay competitive in international markets. In this regard, he argued exporters require assistance to comply with the changing standards environment.
He made these remarks at a ‘Seminar on Global Value Chains and Standards for Trade in Asia’, organized by Institute of Developing Economies, Japan External Trade Organization (IDE-JETRO) and the Ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade (MODSIT). The Seminar was held on 29 March 2018 at the Dr. Saman Kelegama Auditorium, IPS.
