Ganga Tilakaratna Speaks on Growth Acceleration and Social Inclusion

04 – 05 February 2019
New Delhi, India

IPS Research Fellow, Ganga Tilakaratna, recently argued that despite Sri Lanka’s progress in poverty reduction in recent years, high levels of income inequality, continuing low female labor force participation, substantial informal sector employment, and rapid ageing of population remain key challenges for achieving social inclusion in the country.

Dr. Tilakaratna further highlighted the need for creating productive employment opportunities for the poor, strengthening social protection, enhancing financial inclusion and implementing regional development strategies to achieve greater social inclusion in Sri Lanka.

She was a panelist at the session on ‘Growth Acceleration and Social Inclusion’ at the International Conference on ‘Sustainable Development and World Economy’, organised by the Janki Devi Memorial College of the University of Delhi, held at the India International Center in New Delhi on 04 – 05 February 2019.
