Ganga Tilakaratna highlights the Potential linkages between BRI and SDGs

IPS Research Fellow, Ganga Tilakaratna, highlighted the potential impact of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) on the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals in Sri Lanka, at the  regional workshop on ‘Assessing the Potential Impact of the Belt and Road Initiative on Sustainable Development Goals in Asian Economies’, organised by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), in Bangkok, Thailand on 25 – 26 September 2019.

The workshop aimed at discussing and understanding how the Belt and Road Initiative can contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda while managing its potential risks in the region. It was a part of a multi-country project on ‘Strengthening National Policy Capacities for Jointly Building the Belt and Road towards the SDGs’, initiated by DESA. Sri Lanka is among the 14 countries that are currently engaged in this multi-country project.
