Ex-Ante Economic Evaluation of Preferential Trade Agreements between Sri Lanka and Selected Countries

Conducting a comprehensive economic analysis of a potential preferential trade agreement (PTA) impact assessment is important for Sri Lanka, as policymakers need to draw up the necessary adjustment policies to alleviate possible adverse effects and maximise potential benefits from PTAs.  Hence, an ex-ante impact assessment on the hypothetical PTAs generates valuable information for stakeholders and policymakers. The impact’s magnitude and distribution across different sectors can be estimated ex-ante using a partial equilibrium analysis. Accordingly, this project aims to estimate ex-ante the effect of PTAs of Sri Lanka with China, Thailand, India, Japan and Singapore and create an index to measure the viability of PTAs with different countries.
