Employment of Elders Can Reduce Economic Impact of Ageing – Dr Ganga Tilakaratna

Research Fellow and Head of Poverty and Social Welfare Policy Research at IPS, Dr Ganga Tilakaratna has noted that promoting employment of elders and improving pension schemes can reduce the economic impact of population ageing. This observation was made in an Insight on ‘Strengthening the Financial Security of Older Persons in Sri Lanka’ for ADB’s Development Asia platform. Dr Tilakaratna also highlighted several factors that influence the participation of older men and women in the labour force and pointed out that these factors must be taken into consideration when designing related policies.
