Dr Dushni Weerakoon highlights growing challenge of rising food price inflation
8 July 2021
Dr Dushni Weerakoon, Executive Director, IPS highlighted the growing challenge of rising food price inflation at the regional launch of the Global Food Policy Report 2021 prepared by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). She noted that during COVID-19, disruptions to food production have been much less than early estimates suggested, but rising food prices around the world, including in Sri Lanka, can lead to food insecurity, widening inequities and rising poverty levels in the region. Policy responses to address food affordability should focus not only on improvements to food systems, but also to strengthen storage and transport infrastructure.
