Dr. Dushni Weerakoon discusses COVID-19 impact on economy at CMA conference
21 October 2020
Dr. Dushni Weerakoon, Executive Director, IPS was a panellist at the inaugural session of the National Management Accounting Conference 2020 organised by the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) on the theme ‘Overcoming COVID 19 Impact and Navigating to the Next Economy’.
She noted that the global recovery in goods trade and financial markets is much better than was previously forecast and these trends are mirrored in Sri Lanka’s own experience. Responding to a question on impacts of COVID-19 on inequality, Dr. Weerakoon maintained that the economic fallout will likely worsen Sri Lanka’s existing inequalities in view of the specific profile of employment disruptions, weaker bargaining power of workers and access to technology for remote presence.
