Dr. Bilesha Weeraratne meets State Minister Hon. Piyankara Jayaratne

Dr. Bilesha Weeraratne, IPS Research Fellow and Head of Migration and Urbanisation Policy Research paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Piyankara Jayaratne, State Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Market Diversification on September 16th, 2020 at his office to discuss IPS’ research on migration.

During the visit, Dr. Weeraratne also presented her latest research on international labour migration to the Minister. They discussed the importance of aligning Sri Lankan labour migration-related policies to retain foreign employment of Sri Lankan workers. Dr. Weeraratne also emphasised the importance of developing a regional dialogue among South Asian countries to encourage greater responsibility for the wellbeing of foreign migrant workers in destination countries, including the Middle East.
