Dr Asanka Wijesinghe Discusses GSP+ on TV1’s Face the Nation

Participating in the ‘Face the Nation’ live panel discussion telecast over TV1, IPS Research Economist Dr Asanka Wijesinghe highlighted the economic importance of securing the EU’s GSP+ facility. He emphasised that the impact of a potential GSP+ withdrawal will be significant and will affect vital sectors such as apparel and seafood. Dr Wijesinghe pointed out that an export-led growth strategy with an emphasis on the integration to global value chains is the way forward for Sri Lanka towards prosperity, stepping away from ‘anti-trade’ policy biases.
