Discussion on forthcoming BIMSTEC Think Tanks Network

Secretary-General of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), Sumith Nakandala, visited the IPS on 18^th June 2015 to discuss the forthcoming BIMSTEC Think Tanks Network (BTTN) meeting in Bangkok, Thailand. BIMSTEC will soon be moving towards a FTA to strengthen the on-going sectoral cooperation projects.

IPS Executive Director, Dr. Saman Kelegama and Research Fellow, Dr. Janaka Wijayasiri were present at the discussion. Dr. Wijayasiri will be representing the IPS at the BTTN meeting and presenting a paper on Trade Facilitation in the BIMSTEC region.

The BIMSTEC Secretariat was opened in Dhaka in August 2014 and Dr. Kelegama highlighted some of the challenges facing the Secretariat in an article published in the Daily Star.
