Blog by IPS researchers – the most popular on GlobalDev Blog
9 February 2021
A blog written by Ashani Abayasekara and Dr. Nisha Arunatilake, Research Economist and Director of Research at IPS, respectively, for the GlobalDev Blog in 2018, has secured and retained its position as the top most-read out of a total of 250 articles over a three-year period.
In their blog, the authors stress the need to address shortages of qualified and experienced teachers, especially in subjects like mathematics and science, if Sri Lanka is to improve its quality of education. To this end, they recommend upgrading pre-service teacher training programmes, conducting systematic teacher recruitment, and improving the allocation of teachers so that schools in disadvantaged parts of the country can also benefit from having good teachers.
