Agriculture Policy Reforms Urgently Needed – Nimesha Dissanayaka

Nimesha Dissanayaka, Research Officer at IPS highlighted the need for urgent agricultural policy reforms at the launch of a Special Issue of the Viet Nam Journal for Indian and South Asian Studies (VIJAS), for the month of September 2021. The event was organised by the Sri Lankan Embassy in association with the Vietnam Institute for Indian and Southwest Asian Studies (VIISAS) and the Viet Nam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS). Participating at the event, Nimesha elaborated on the profitability and competitiveness of vegetable farming systems in Sri Lanka. She noted that the cost of production has risen due to the escalation in tradable input costs. Therefore, agriculture policy reforms are needed to ensure a better allocation of domestic resources to be comparatively advantageous.
