2018 Blue Green Budget of Sri Lanka: It’s Reality in Environmental Perspective

IPS Research Economist, Kanchana Wickramasinghe, recently shared her views on Sri Lanka’s 2018 Budget proposals which aimed at improving climate resilience of the country. While commending on the initiative to design weather-index insurance in Sri Lanka, she highlighted the possible challenges and the way forward for the newly proposed insurance scheme. She also touched upon the ongoing developments in improving availability of climate information in Sri Lanka and how the budget proposal to enhance the capacity of Department Meteorology can help to promote climate resilience of Sri Lanka.

She made these observations while serving as a panelist at the discussion titled “2018 Blue Green Budget of Sri Lanka: It’s Reality in Environmental Perspective”, organized by the Institute of Environmental Professionals Sri Lanka (IEPSL) held at the National Library and Documentation Board’s Auditorium on the 14 December 2017.

The panel discussion aimed at creating a dialogue around the environmental perspective of the government’s budget proposals for 2018 under the theme of “Blue – Green Budget; the Launch of Enterprise Sri Lanka.”
