Malathy Knight-John

Malathy Knight-John is a Research Fellow and Head of Industry, Public Enterprise Reform and Regulatory Policy research at the IPS. Her research interests include public enterprise reform/privatization, utility regulation, competition policy, economic governance and the political economy of reform and she has published extensively in these areas both locally and internationally.

Malathy Knight-John has also held advisory positions for the government, the private sector and key donor agencies on policy issues such as the development of a national industrial policy framework, rehabilitation of sick industries, physical infrastructure reforms, telecommunications liberalization and ICT development, Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) and national disaster management.

Malathy Knight-John holds a BA in Economics from Swarthmore College, USA and an MA in Economics from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. She is currently reading for a PhD in Development Policy and Management, focusing on The Political Economy of Telecommunications Reform and Regulation in Developing Countries: The Case of Sri Lanka, at the University of Manchester, U.K.
