Trade, Innovation and Growth: The Case of Sri Lankan Textile and Clothing Industry

The ending of the Multi-Fibre Arrangement (MFA) has led to an increase in the US and EU markets which has motivated a large number of innovations in the textile and clothing sector. Some large companies have become a total service provider while some are trying to establish their own brands. This Working Paper looks at how intensified competition in light of the abolition of the MFA has led to a number of innovative measures being undertaken by the textile and clothing industry in Sri Lanka to face the challenges of a quota free era.
