The IPS has placed considerable value in developing research linkages both locally and internationally. As such, the Institute has established formal links with a number of research networks and developed collaborative partnerships with the government, non government, private sector organizations, as well as regional research institutions, and donor agencies.


Formal Links

South Asia Centre for Policy Studies (SACEPS)

SACEPS is a network of research organizations involved in studying regional issues in South Asia. The overall objective of SACEPS is to promote regional cooperation amongst member countries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in the field of development economic, policy studies and policy advo acy. The IPS is represented in the Governing and Executive Board of SACEPS and has collaborated extensively with SACEPS in carrying out a number of studies related to socio-economic issues in South Asia.

SAARC Network on Global Financial and Economic Issues

SAARC Network of Researchers on Global, Financial and Economic Issues was convened following a recommendation made by the Heads of State of SAARC countries at the 10th Summit Meeting in July 1998. The objective of the Network is to coordinate research efforts in analyzing the challenges of global economic developments faced by SAARC member countries, and assist SAARC countries to adopt a common South Asian position where necessary. The Government of Sri Lanka nominated IPS as the national research coordinator, and the Institute was invited to take the initiative in coordinating the activities of the Network. As part of the Network's work programme, a journal titled the South Asia Economic Journal (SAEJ) was launched in March 2000. IPS plays a lead role in this grouping and is responsible for the management of the journal, jointly with the Research and Information System (RIS), India.

The Indian Rim Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC)

The Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation (IOR-ARC) is a regional grouping for economic cooperation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka has nominated IPS as the focal point for research for IOR-ARCs academic group (IORAG).

The Poverty and Economic Policy (PEP) Research Network

The Poverty and Economic Policy (PEP) Research Network plays an important role in global poverty reduction by bringing together and providing technical and financial support to researchers from developing countries, who are working on poverty related issues. Currently, over 100 researchers from about 40 developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America are involved in this network. The PEP Research Network is funded by the International Development Research Center (IDRC) of Canada.

The network aims at developing and strengthening local research capacity in poverty monitoring and analysis, and developing new concepts and methodologies through research activities. In 2005, IPS was the host institution of the 4th Annual PEP Conference in Sri Lanka during 9-17 June 2005.

Asia-Pacific Research and Training Network on Trade (ARTNeT)

Asia-Pacific Research and Training Network on Trade (ARTNeT) is an open regional network composed of leading trade research institutions across the UN-ESCAP region, and supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada . IPS is the ARTNet focal point in Sri Lanka , and is represented in the ARTNeT Institutional Advisory Board.

Indian Council for South Asian Cooperation (ICCSAC), New Delhi , India has established collaboration with IPS in seminars, workshops and papers for the journal- South Asia Survey.
