Library subscribes to the Arts and Sciences I Collection of the full text online journal database called JSTOR. In addition, it has access to EBSCO and Blackwell Synergy databases through the International Network for the Availability for Scientific Publications (INASP) and IDRC projects.

JSTOR The IPS Library subscribes to the Arts and Sciences I collection of JSTOR's full text online journal database. This database contains 117 journals in the disciplines of African-American Studies, Anthropology, Asian Studies, Ecology, Economics, Education, Finance, History, Literature, Mathematics, Philosophy, Political Science, Population/Demography, Sociology, and Statistics. It includes all back issues.

 

EBSCO Research Databases

Contains over 6000 full text journals covering all disciplines. The following databases could be accessed through EBSCO:

Academic Search Premier - A full text database delivering a multi-disciplinary collection of scholarly journals. Includes a total of 4,270 journal titles: 3,300 full text and 2,410 peer reviewed.

Business Source Premier - A full text database designed to meet the information needs of the business and economics researcher. Contains over 2,500 scholarly journals dating as far back as January 1990; 770 of these full text journals are peer reviewed. Over 3,030 business periodicals indexed and abstracted as far back as 1984. Charts and graphs are converted to searchable ASCII text and are included for corresponding full text articles not offered in PDF format. PDF images available for over 1,847 titles.

Updated daily. Full text not available for recent issues of some journals. Coverage: 1984 to present.

Econlit - The American Economic Association's electronic bibliographic database is an authoritative source for citations and abstracts to economic research. Subject coverage includes economic theory, modelling, planning, demographics, monetary policy, labour and marketing. Some full text. Coverage: 1969 - present.

ERIC - The Educational Resource Information Centre contains more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 980 educational and education-related journals.

CAB Abstracts 1990-Present
CAB Abstracts (1990 to Present) covers the significant research and development literature in fields of agriculture, forestry, aspects of human health, human nutrition, animal health, as well as the management and conservation of natural resources. This database offers abstracts and indexing for journals, serial publications, conference proceedings, books, theses, annual reports, patents & standards and dates back to 1990. Coverage is international in scope.

TOC Premier
This database provides table of contents information for over 23,000 of the most recently published journals. Types of journals range from business to scientific, technical and medical as well as general interest. This database contains over 18 million citation records, dating back to 1995 and is updated daily on EBSCOhost.

MEDLINE
MEDLINE provides authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more. Created by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE allows users to search abstracts from over 4,600 current biomedical journals. This database is current through 28/10/04.

Communication & Mass Media Complete
This provides the most robust, quality research solution in areas related to communication and mass media. This database originated with the acquisition and subsequent merging of two popular databases in the fields of communication and mass media studies -- CommSearch (formerly produced by the National Communication Association (NCA)), and Mass Media Articles Index (formerly produced by Pennsylvania State University). Communication & Mass Media Complete provides an invaluable resource for students, researchers, and educators interested in any and all aspects of communication and mass media.

American Humanities Index
Produced by Whitston Publishing, is a collection of bibliographic references to literary, scholarly and creative journals published in the United States and Canada. This database contains over 1,000 journals published from 1975 to the present.

PAIS International
Produced by the OCLC Public Affairs Information Service, provides global coverage of public affairs and world issues, with an emphasis on issues in the public debate. It includes references to more than 530,000 journal articles, books, government documents, statistical directories, grey literature, research reports, policy papers, Internet sites and documents, conference reports and other sources published in English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish from more than 120 countries.

Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR)
This contains full text articles, as well as protocols focusing on the effects of healthcare. Data is evidence-based medicine and is often combined statistically (with meta-analysis) to increase the power of the findings of numerous studies, each too small to produce reliable results individually.

Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness (DARE)
This includes abstracts of published systematic reviews on the effects of health care from around the world, which have been critically analyzed according to a high standard of criteria. This database provides access to quality reviews in subjects for which a Cochrane review may not yet exist.

Cochrane Controlled Trials Register
This is a bibliography of controlled trials identified by contributors to the Cochrane Collaboration and others, as part of an international effort to hand-search the world's journals and create an unbiased source of data for systematic reviews.

 

Synergy Synergy now includes 430,290 articles from 751 full text journals covering the following subjects: Agriculture and Animal Sciences; Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Maths and Statistics; Engineering, Computing and Technology; Health Sciences; Humanities; Law; Life and Physical Sciences; Medicine; Social and Behavioural Sciences; and the Arts.
