Survey on Catch up Education (On-going)

It is compulsory for all children to be in school till they are 14 years of age. However, about 17 per cent of children do not complete compulsory education due to various reasons. Particularly in conflict affected areas, due to displacements and disruptions to education, children fall behind or they drop out of school altogether. Many national and international NGOs have conducted Catch Up Education (CUE) programmes to help children get back to mainstream schools. However, there is little coordination between these different CUE progrmmes. This study seeks to provide a clear picture of the status of CUE in Sri Lanka with the hope of standardizing and strengthening the CUE approach in the national education system.
