Research Agenda

The Institute’s major strengths are in work involving economic analysis, team-based research and requiring close co-operation with government agencies. There are five priority areas for research, which take into account identified needs and the Institute’s comparative advantages.

• Organization and performance of the public sector health delivery system
  
  
• Organization and operation of private health financing and provision markets
  
  
• Financing of the health sector, including current trends and mechanisms, and feasibility of alternative options
  
  
• Economic and health sector implications of demographic transition
  

Studies are initiated when funding permits, and if they are related to the identified priority areas. Occasionally, other activities are undertaken at the request of key agencies or if the programmes are expected to add significantly to research capabilities and resources.
