The direction of IPS research is driven by the desire to inform and influence the policy making process in Sri Lanka. The Institute is uniquely positioned to bring together government, academia, private sector and civil society participants by providing an independent forum for discussion and debate.

With this in mind, the IPS organizes and hosts national and international conferences, workshops and seminars by itself or in collaboration with local and foreign partners. These forums are viewed as important means by which to disseminate its views, obtain feedback, and initiate public and intellectual dialogue on issues of socio-economic policy, and to develop institutional networking within and outside Sri Lanka.

As part of the Institute’s objective of strengthening training and capacity building for its research staff, researchers are also encouraged to present In-House Events and book reviews. These events are organized regularly on a monthly basis. Information on upcoming events can be viewed on-line.
